The new Coronado Telephone Books have arrived and are out for delivery! Watch for yours to arrive soon. Since 1960, the Coronado Cays view across the bay has included the Chula Vista Power Plant. The power plant is set to be imploded this Saturday, Feb 2, 2013, at 7 a.m. and last about two minutes. It will be postponed if wind speeds exceed 15 mph.
Each day we are inundated with digital messages and sound bites clamoring for our attention. Imagine our surprise and delight when we received this graciously hand-written note of appreciation from long-time Coronado resident Jeanne Shoemaker.
Thank you Jeanne, you truly brightened our day.
As you can see it was a great day on the water in San Diego Bay. The company boat is a Kayot S245, and unlike most of the other toys (I mean company assets) it does not have a name yet. Is that bad luck? Any suggestions? Maybe Miss KenPubl or ToBook. Kinda of a play on words there if you didn’t notice.
Speaking of Fat Tuesday and life’s a party… be on the lookout for “The Prince of Coronado” currently making the rounds in Hollywood. A small hint for you, as to what the heck is he talking about. It revolves around a previous company asset called BESTRQZ, and some related adventures.
…this was taken with a big, huge telephoto lens from Coronado!
OMG. Another year has come and gone. The Kennedy Book’s office overlooks San Diego Bay. Check out this morning’s view of a huge Navy ship passing by …Off to Coronado Rotary meeting.
Wow! We’re several weeks into preparing the next edition of the book. Contacting advertisers and talk, talk, talk. As usual, after the first couple of days I was hoarse from talk, talk, talking all day and was mainlining throat lozenges to keep going.
And then all that talking evidently started it raining. We haven’t seen real weather in a while so it’s been interesting. It’s actually been good, as everybody is inside hiding from the deluge and waiting for my yearly solicitation. Seriously, talking to my friends, helping them with what we provide their business is really cool. I wouldn’t trade this for the world and feel truly blessed.
This year, when we were redoing our website, it got me thinking about the history of Kennedy Publishing and all the cutting edge stuff we’ve done with it. First actual phone book on the internet back in 1996. First phone book using full color in the yellow pages in 1999, to name a few. The fact that the sayings, anecdotes, quotes, etc. that are throughout the book are loved and looked forward to by everyone certainly is not business as usual for a phone book. The way the book started and prospered in our very competitive world is a great success story for small business doing battle with big business. Sooo, anyway, when I was approached by the local Optimist Club to speak at one of their meetings about all this and read a few favorite “fill” items that have been included over the years I naturally put them off. I am reconsidering and invite your comments, dear reader, yea or nay.
