Particularly, Gerry MacCartee and Nancy Cobb’s historical presentation was fun, educational and entertaining. Fundraising appeared to be very successful at the live auction also. Look out the rest of Coronado’s many swank fundraising events. The bar has been raised! Nancy Helsper and Carol Raiter as co-chairs outdid themselves for a worthy cause.

Speaking of Fat Tuesday and life’s a party… be on the lookout for “The Prince of Coronado” currently making the rounds in Hollywood. A small hint for you, as to what the heck is he talking about. It revolves around a previous company asset called BESTRQZ, and some related adventures.

Above this morning’s sunrise was a crescent moon equally spectacular!! Sorry for all the exclamation points. I’m sorry for all my shortcomings. A little too “loose” after last nights Chamber event. As a matter of fact, this is yesterday’s sunrise anyway. I sound a little pious because earlier while filling up CORMKTG, (that’s one of the cars) at Costco all the car owners were standing around watching the fuel dispensers barely crawling and complaining, but laughing at all my usual antics as I normally set the dispenser gun and then interact with anything close. As the guy on duty comes over to my car’s machine bantering about how he could do nothing about it, but would call someone, I notice, because of my “looseness” I had set the gun on unleaded and CORMKTG takes premium. We mostly drive 10SNADO which is a little Prius and takes unleaded in my defense. I quickly close out and start filling up with premium getting ready to go back to the slow crawling, but it starts dispensing at the normal rate. As I am freaking about my divine intervention, I look around and the others are all back up to speed as well. We all looked at each other with amazement, knowing, because of my vocalism about being appreciative and that the powers that be correcting my blunder, immediately tagged me as being very worthy, as well as pretty entertaining. They all left and went right away to their nearest houses of worship and I, of course, came to work. Sorry Pastor Dave.

Back to the Chamber party. Good to see a lot of friends, old and new. Special shout out to Luca and Il Fornaio for the surroundings and hospitality. It was fun kibitzing with Shirley Nakawakatase from Imperial Beach and Coronado city manager Blair King about the glory days of IB when KPC was doing the IB Book, Blair was doing the city manager role, and Shirley was doing almost everything else. Always good to see the father/daughter team of Dave and Margaret Herring in attendance with their significant others. Never thought talking about rocks with Coronado First Bank manager, Renee Hinton could be as thrilling as it was. For that matter, watching the bevy of groups from the Eagle, Coronado Beauty Salon, Coronado Hospital Foundation, Coronado Republican Women, Discover Wellness and a host of others all enjoying themselves for our amusement. Even Dan McGeorge from the island’s new gallery, an old DINFOS trained killer like myself, was seen “having at” the festivities. I think I have corrected the looseness so I quit. LOL

No, I have to tell you about a few others so you get the drift… Phil and Pam Hammett, Doreen Tafelski, Yvonne Barnum, Mary Jo Morgan, Mary Ann Berta, Denise Scwab, all were laughing like crazy at Ruth Ann Fisher on the microphone…drifting yet?… Root 75 owner Kristy Pierre…how about now?

After taking my son up to LJCD everyday for school I return over the SD-Coronado Bay Bridge to Nado. Turning left on A Ave (after 8am of course) and up to the stop sign to cross 4th Street.

There everyday is an older gentleman standing around his house doing chores or sometimes just standing on the sidewalk. We always wave hello to each other and he always seems happy.

Great way to start the day. Pass it around world. We could use it!

April 22nd the local Optimists, at their weekly meeting will have as the guest speaker, yours truly.

I did decide to accept. April 22nd the local Optimists, at their weekly meeting will have as the guest speaker, yours truly. I thought it would be kinda of cool to video it and post it on the blog. The “who shot John” for the island’s local telephone book isn’t exactly a good murder mystery, but if you haven’t heard how we came to be, and you weren’t living in Coronado in the mid 80′s when the directory was sold to “out-of-towners”, it’s better than being poked by a sharp stick to pass the time. I will provide some entertainment, as I will read a few selected “fill” items that are loved and laughed at by all, and even, maybe a story from my attempts at pro tennis.

By the by…we love the attention our Facebook fan page is receiving. Does that mean someone is actually reading this stuff?

Wow! We're several weeks into preparing the next edition of the book.

Wow! We’re several weeks into preparing the next edition of the book. Contacting advertisers and talk, talk, talk. As usual, after the first couple of days I was hoarse from talk, talk, talking all day and was mainlining throat lozenges to keep going.

And then all that talking evidently started it raining. We haven’t seen real weather in a while so it’s been interesting. It’s actually been good, as everybody is inside hiding from the deluge and waiting for my yearly solicitation. Seriously, talking to my friends, helping them with what we provide their business is really cool. I wouldn’t trade this for the world and feel truly blessed.

This year, when we were redoing our website, it got me thinking about the history of Kennedy Publishing and all the cutting edge stuff we’ve done with it. First actual phone book on the internet back in 1996. First phone book using full color in the yellow pages in 1999, to name a few. The fact that the sayings, anecdotes, quotes, etc. that are throughout the book are loved and looked forward to by everyone certainly is not business as usual for a phone book. The way the book started and prospered in our very competitive world is a great success story for small business doing battle with big business. Sooo, anyway, when I was approached by the local Optimist Club to speak at one of their meetings about all this and read a few favorite “fill” items that have been included over the years I naturally put them off. I am reconsidering and invite your comments, dear reader, yea or nay.
